The province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can rightly take pride as it is the first province to have created Department of Science & Technology and Information Technology 2003, whereas the Directorate of Science and Technology (DoST) was established in 2006 with a vision of "Building a knowledge Based economy by using Science & Technology as an engine of socio-economic development".


We are at the midst of what could be called a knowledge revolution" that is being spear headed by rapid advances in the science base across a wide range of areas from information and communication to biotechnology to nanotechnology.

The rapid development and spread of knowledge facilitated by technical progress is creating a more competitive and interdependent world. The knowledge revolution provides greater potential for countries to strengthen their economic and social development by providing more efficient ways of producing goods and services and delivering them more efficient ways of producing goods and services and delivering them more effectively and at lower costs to a greater number of people.


Since its creation, the Department is actively engaged in promotion of Science and Technology in accordance with the vision of the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy, 2012 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Comprehensive Development Strategy 2010-2017.


In the context to the assigned mandate the sub sector Science & Technology, various initiatives are undertaken and achieved substantial accomplished as described in the achievement booklet.


At the end, I would like to opine that Globalization and the emergence of knowledge-based economies are the most important challenges that are faced by the developing countries like Pakistan. We have to respond to the new challenges with policies, programs, institutions and especially with the collaborative efforts in order to avail maximum economic opportunities and sustain social fabric.
