Taskforces constituted in eight key natural resources that are unique to Khyber Pakhunkhwa

The Directorate General of Science and Technology held meeting with the Taskforces constituted in eight key natural resources that are unique to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and have been identified for R&D investments. The meeting was chaired by Director General, Directorate General of Science and Technology Sajid Hussain Shah with a group of diverse sectoral stakeholders.
The Task forces has been established in the identified key natural resource areas to develop a deeper cross-sectoral understanding by bringing together experts from the academia, industry, development and non-profit sectors.

DoST launching School of Technology Shalman

Directorate General of Science and Technology today launched a program to promote technology oriented skills by providing short, medium and long term courses at state of the art school of technology established at Shalman area of district Khyber.

Under the program, 200 youths of the Khyber district would be trained in different courses including design thinking, professional communication, digital citizenship, leadership/entrepreneurship, innovation thinking methods, introduction to science & technology and information technology.

The program was launched at a ceremony attended by Secretary Science and Technology & Information Technology Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Muhammad Khalid, Additional Sect (ST&IT) Mr. Wasif Saeed, Director Pak Austria Fachhochschule - Institute of Applied Science & Technology Dr. Nasser Ali Khan, DG DoST, Mr. Sajid Hussain Shah, MPA from Khyber Shafiq Sher, VC from University Of Lakki Marwat  Dr. Aurengzeb Khan, Project Manager and Assistant Professor PAF-IAST Ms. Zainab Azmat and students enrolled for the training.

Secretary ST&IT Muhammad Khalid said that there was a lot of potential in the youths of merged areas and the government has launched different schemes for them to utilize it in the larger interest of the country.

Project Director Pak-Austria Fachhochschule - Institute of Applied Science & Technology Dr. Nasser Ali Khan, said “We are working on a program under which 25,000 youths would be trained in different course of information technology across the province,”. For this purpose, he said that the second shift of over 250 government colleges would be utilized.

The programs for the skill development of the merged areas would not only bridge the gap in the local industry but also the countries where most of Pakistanis go for search of jobs.

Under the program the enrolled youths are expected to improve their skills, applying those skills on online platforms, and contributing to livelihood generation. It will also enhance the efficiency of the almost 200 professionals per year by developing their capacity over new technology tools.

It will also help to promote & stimulate economic growth through new technologies from gross root level and to equip the fresh graduates/unemployed graduates on latest technologies required for industries.

STEAM Summer Camp Abbottabad

The Directorate General of Science & Technology has been successful in conducting its first residential STEAM Summer Camp exclusively for the male and female students of secondary level from Newly Merged Districts in two phases.

The residential STEAM Summer Camps managed to engage a total of 400 young learners from Merged Districts in inter-disciplinary STEAM-related subjects (Space Sciences, Biotechnology, Robotics, Art & Design and Math Hacks) to connect their interests to future pursuits in STEAM related fields. The first Summer Camp of the series for male candidates took place between 1st -6th July at Kalam, Swat, whereas the second phase of STEAM Summer Camp for girls took place at Baragali Summer Camp, University of Peshawar, from 10th to 14th August. A total of 200 female candidates were trained in STEAM education.

The closing Ceremony was attended by the worthy Secretary ST&IT Department Mr. Matiullah Khan, from Directorate General of Science and Technology Mr. Sajid Hussain Shah, from academia Vice Chancellor FATA University Dr. Jehanzeb, Ex Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benzair Bhutto Women University Dr. Razia Sultana and other officials from government as well as academia.

DoST hosted KP’s first Natural Resources convention to leverage the power of science and technology

The Directorate General of Science and Technology hosted KP’s first Natural Resources convention to leverage the power of science and technology for uplifting scientific interventions in eight key natural resource areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including gemstones, bees, and honey, fisheries, herbs and biodiversity, Micro-Hydro Power, Fruits and Vegetables, archaeology, and urban environments.
The convention called for action relevant key stakeholders and experts from academia, industry, policy circles, and the development sector and spurred dialogue between them by addressing key challenges in the natural resource areas to propose a useful framework for KP natural resource management and conflict resolution.
As a result of the convention, each of the working groups efficiently participated by identifying key challenges and providing policy recommendations in key natural resource areas of the province.
The convention was attended by various Government Dignitaries and representatives from Science and Technology sector including Secretary Science and Technology & Information Technology Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Matiullah Khan, Director General of Science and Technology Sajjid Hussain Shah, Advisor to Minister Atif Khan on Science and Technology Dr. Faisal Khan, Managing Director Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board - KPITB Dr. Ali Mahmud.

Hosted First Youth Tech Festival 2022 in Mardan

Science and Technology & Information Technology Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa hosted the first Youth Tech Festival 2022 in Mardan in collaboration with the Directorate General of Science & Technology and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board - KPITB at Abdul Wali Khan University, Shankar Campus MardanScience and Technology & Information Technology Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa  hosted the first Youth Tech Festival 2022 in Mardan in collaboration with the Directorate General of Science & Technology and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board - KPITB at Abdul Wali Khan University, Shankar Campus Mardan

The Youth Tech festival significantly aimed to bring together Innovators, Researchers, Entrepreneurs and Technologists to inspire next-generation youth using technology.

The event featured panel discussions on innovative ideas, S&T projects, S&T prototype display, workshops, science and technology pavilions and distribution of awards and certificates to successful ST&IT startups.

Some of the startups displayed at the tech festival included Robotrsectors Makers Space, STEAM minds, encoder bytes, Nayab's Rouge, etc.

Minister ST&IT, KP Atif Khan also addressed the event participants by stating that; "Technology is playing a vital role in improving Pakistan’s socio-economic conditions, which is most evident in KP where smart applications are allowing improvements in health, education, economy, revenue, and other areas"

“KP youth have tremendous potential to contribute to entrepreneurial activity and to promote the ecosystem through the application of technology,” said Minister ST IT KP Atif Khan. 

Overall, the Youth Tech festival was a huge success as it gathered the interest of youth by encouraging more students, teachers, entrepreneurs, and innovators to engage in research and innovation in the field of science and technology.

DoST and UET Peshawar hosted Youth Robo Tec '22

Directorate General of Science and Technology in collaboration with UET Peshawar (Department of Mechatronics) successfully held a 2-day mega event  Youth Robo Tec '22 to engage students in STEM-related fields and encourage their creative thinking and problem-solving skills.  

Youth Robo Tec 2022 is a step towards motivating and empowering the youth to be the next generation of innovators by adopting Industry 4.0 technologies such as #robotics, #cloudcomputing, cyber-physical systems, Internet of Things (#IoT), and artificial intelligence (#AI).   

The two-day annual event included a lot of activities for youth to actively participate in several competitions like robotic competitions, e-games, projects exhibition, space poster competition, workshops, and seminars.

Some of the key Robotics projects displayed at the event included a Robotic arm, Air propeller car, Flying rocket, Obstacle avoider, and hopping robot. The event finally concluded with award and prize distribution among the participants for their best projects.

Moreover, the event included the presence of Special Assistant Industries Commerce; Abdul Karim Khan, and VCs of universities and colleges. 

Overall, the event was a huge success as it generated interest in both young participants and adults to engage and participate in more of such science and technology-related events in the future.

Investors Baithak - Pak-Seattle Tech Connections Meetup

The Directorate General of Science and Technology organized KP Investors Baithak, a one-day Pak-Seattle Tech Connections Meetup where Investors from Seattle, USA visited Peshawar and had a meet-up with KP-based potential Science & Technology and IT startups.

The investors' Baithak was attended by honorable secretary ST&IT Dr. Amber Ali Khan; Director General Directorate of Science and Technology Sajid Hussain  Shah and Managing Director KPITB, Dr. Ali Mehmood.

The event showcased representatives from some of the famous US-based technology companies including Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Oracle, who have successfully launched technology startups in the USA. 

The event also included start pitch-decks of ST&IT start-ups for investors and a diverse technology-based startups exhibition.

The Catalyst GIK - Inauguration and Graduation Ceremony

Honorable KP Minister ST&IT, Atif Khan inaugurated DoST-funded "The Catalyst Technology Incubation Center’’ at GIK. 

Funded and supported by the Directorate General of Science and Technology (DoST), The Catalyst GIK Incubator is a state-of-the-art technology incubator and the only residential incubator in Pakistan, where startups reside on the campus free of cost and primarily spend most of their time engaged in other promising and innovative ideas.  

As part of the inauguration, the graduation ceremony of startups was also held in recognition of the successful efforts of entrepreneurs incubated in the state-of-the-art technology incubation center.

Science, Technology, and Innovation for Ecosystem Restoration

In keeping with this year's "Ecosystem Restoration" theme for World Environment Day 2021, DoST successfully organized a seminar on "Science, Technology, and Innovation for Ecosystem Restoration" at the newly established KP Innovation Park to commemorate Government’s efforts for the global environment.

The main purpose of the Seminar was to increase awareness about technological solutions to environmental challenges and highlight the contributions of DoST through its indigenously developed technologies for environmental protection, as well as the scope for research and development for new technologies.

DoST Launches KP Clean Air Innitiative

In recognition of Pakistan for hosting World Environment Day 2021 and to laud the efforts of the Government for global environment, DoST has organized a seminar titled ‘’Science Technology and innovation for Ecosystem Restoration’’. As part of the seminar, DoST will launch ‘’KP Clean Air Initiative’’ to provide technology-based solutions to environmental challenges. First KP Crypto Advisory Committee Meeting held under the Chairmanship of Zia Ullah Bangash at KPITB Peshawar.
First meeting of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Crypto Advisory Committee chaired by Crypto Currency and Crypto Mining, Ziaullah Bangash and Provincial Finance Minister Taimoor Jhag
In the first meeting of the Advisory Committee, it was decided that all committees will be formed to deal with various matters. Block Chain Committee was established in the sub-committees which included Ahmed, Atif and Wajid while the chairman member of the provincial assembly. Will be.
Technical committee and coordination committee were set up in other committees. Coordination committee members will join provincial assembly and technical members to discuss policy with steak holders, state bank, FBR and other institutions.
Ziaullah Khan Bangash issued directions to Zelly committees to present their proposals at the next meeting of the Advisory Committee. He directed the technical committee to present a detailed report on installation of hydro power including crypto mining forms including expenses. Do it.
Various technical members of the Advisory Committee also gave suggestions and legal opinion regarding crypto mining to the forum. Ziaullah Bangash has said that the provincial government is taking serious steps for crypto mining under the guidance and patronage of Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and we will start crypto mining and blockchain according to legal procedures after consultation with all stakeholders and experts. In the meeting, the Managing Director of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board, Sahibzada Ali Mahmood also recommended to set up a committee on Block Chain. In addition to the review of various technical matters, the use of this technology in various government departments under the scope of this committee. Ziaullah Bangash said in reference to crypto mining that the weather of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is useful for it, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has many hydropower capabilities and all these facilities are essential for crypto mining. While the provincial government is also taking steps for legislation and All experts can also give suggestions on the website of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board.
Ziaullah Bangash said that those who are interested in crypto mining should apply. He said that he will also hold a seminar on this topic very soon to raise awareness to the public.
Provincial Finance Minister Taimoor Saleem Jhagra said that we are also looking at the legality of crypto mining and the needs of other steak holders like State Bank and FBR. And we will try to launch crypto mining after completing all legal requirements. So that like other countries we can also take advantage of this opportunity.
Food Advisor Mian Khaliq-ur-Rehman said that we should also benefit from experiments from other countries and implement easy and understanding system to guide industries and give people information about crypto mining through awareness campaign.

Honorable Minister ST&IT Visited U.S.-Pakistan Center

Minister of Science & Technology and Information Technology (ST & IT) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Kamran Khan Bangash along with Director of Science and Technology Directorate, Dr Khalid Khan, visited U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCAS-E), University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar. 

Mr. Bangash was briefed by Vice Chancellor UET Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Hussain about USPCAS-E. Founding Director, Dr. Najeeb Ullah delivered a detailed presentation to Minister ST & IT about the role of USPCAS-E and its achievements so far in the field of energy. Dr. Najeeb mentioned in his brief that USPCAS-E is carrying out research work in the field of Renewable Energy, Thermal Systems Engineering, Energy Policy and Electrical Engineering System. He further shared that USPCAS-E has already been declared Think Tank for solutions to energy related issues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Speaking at the occasion Mr. Bangash commended the work of USPCAS-E. He praised the efforts of USAID for addressing the challenges of energy sector by establishing specialized higher education institutes in the region. He expressed gratitude and thanked USAID for the initiative by establishing USPCASE which is aimed to empower the young engineers of KP. He added, since ST&IT sectors are in dire need of immediate consideration and therefore KP government is resolute on improving these sectors. Mr. Bangash reiterated that provincial government will put all the possible efforts to stay on course of assisting the endeavors made for the betterment of institutions like USPCAS-E.…

Greenovation- Producing LPG by recycling waste plastic.

Honorable Chief Minister KP awarding Seed Funding to a recently graduated Startup from DoST-GIKI incubator – first-ever such ceremony in KP In line with Government initiative of Clean & Green Pakistan, Greenovation is Pakistan's first-ever Energy startup which is producing hydrocarbon-based fuel in the form of LPG from non-biodegradable plastic waste through an environmentally friendly and innovative process.

It has zero environmental impact, as there are no air and water emissions; the Project is highly efficient and green. The project falls in line with multiple sustainable development goals of the United Nations i.e., Affordable & Green Energy (Goal 7), Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure (Goal 9), Sustainable Cities & Communities (Goal 11), Climate Action (Goal 13), Life on Land (Goal 15), Participations for the Goals (Goal 17), which Pakistan is also trying to fulfill. So this project not only uplifts Pakistan at a global level but also directly provides a clean environment, standard living, and stable energy supply to common people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Project Team includes Supervisor Dr. Cedric Aimal Edwin, Co-Supervisor Dr. Khuram Imran and Team Members are Saad Bin Azam, Shafiullah Marwat, and Miss. Umaima Iftikhar.

The commercialization award is up to PKR 30 Million.
Eligibility Criteria

  • 10% of the total commercialization awarded amount will be paid by the main applicant.
  • Focused areas include Energy, Environment, Agriculture, Food, Health, Mines, Minerals, Water, etc.
  • Have passed ‘Proof of Concept stage’ (i.e. ready for commercialization).
  • Be innovative and provide solution(s) to problems or challenges.
  • Show clear business opportunity(s) and its positive impact(s) on the public, economy and environment of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
  • Main applicant must be a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa domicile holder positioned anywhere in Pakistan or abroad, however business operations must be based in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Directorate of Science and Technology (DoST), Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under its developmental scheme titled “Promotion & Support of Scientific Innovation/ Product Development by Youth of Schools/ Colleges/ Universities (SIPDY)” is organizing 06 Regional Science Olympiads/ Fairs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 1st Regional Science Olympiad/ Fair for Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi Districts and tribal districts of Khyber & Mohmand. An open competition for science innovative ideas, research, models, prototypes processes & projects etc.  among schools, colleges, universities and general public.  A unique opportunity for the students as well as general public to showcase to the world their creativity, knowledge & scientific genius in S&T development. The best will be awarded cash prizes and certificates.

The competition starts from today and will culminate in the event on 29th November, 2018. It could be YOUR life time opportunity.

The winners of the Regional Science Olympiads/ Fairs will qualify for the Grand Provincial Science Olympiad /Fair.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Science, Technology & Innovation Awards 2019

In recognition of extraordinary efforts & to honour people of exceptional abilities making Khyber Pakhtunkhwa visible on the world map, DoST proudly announces prestigious and coveted “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) Awards 2019” under its developmental scheme titled “Promotion & Support of Scientific Innovation/ Product Development by Youth of Schools/ Colleges/ Universities (SIPDY)”.
KP STI awards (Cash Awards, Certificates and Medals) will be awarded in the following Three (03) Categories:

  • Top Scientist Award (Academic Achievement) (1 Award)
  • Top Innovator Award (Excellence in Innovation and Technology Transfer) (2 Awards)
  • Top Young Investigator Award (Emerging Science Leader) (1 Award)

Documents/Testimonials/Credentials Required

Scientists, technologists & innovators interested to compete for the prestigious and coveted awards should annex copies of the following documents/testimonials/credentials with their applications:

  • Complete resume, domicile and National Identity Card
  • List of all previous awards and honors
  • Abstracts of research publications produced along with the impact factor and total citations
    • Titles of the publications
    • Name(s) of Author(s)
    • Summary of the results
    • Sectors to which technology is related.
    • Economic/ industrial importance of the research/technology transferred/excellence in innovation
  • List of patents granted and commercialized
  • List of Books Published/ Edited (Title page and Table of Contents shall be provided)
  • Details of external research grants secured
  • Details of Research work/ Technology Transfer / Process developed / Product developed / excellence in innovation used/ implemented by any institutions/ industry/ community.
